Candidate Services - Interview Advice

Performing a great Interview is all down to preparation. You put in the right amount of ground work and prepare yourself properly and it will greatly increase your chances of your next interview being successful. Below we have included some of the key points required to nail that dream job interview:

  • Always do lots of research

i. Know the Job Description and have examples of how your work and life experiences match their requirements.

ii. Research the Company so that you know what they do, what their aims are and where you could help them (this will also help you come up with some questions for them at the end of the interview).

iii. If you require more information or there is something you are unsure of, give us a call.

  • Always turn up 15 minutes early looking smart (Suit, tie, shoes etc)

  • Ensure that you portray an image of professionalism and interest in their role.

i. Shake the interviewers hand and wait for them to offer you a chair.

ii. Do not slouch, ensure that you lean forward or sit up straight to show
a keen interest in what they say, their role and the company.

iii. Do not fidget.

iv. Make and keep eye contact.

v.  Ensure that you allow the interview time to finish their question.

vi.  Answer every question clearly and concisely.

  • Always ensure that you sell yourself to the interviewer,
explain to them what you can offer them.
  • If you feel you haven’t explained or sold yourself fully,
answered a question as well as you could, use the end of the interview as an
opportunity to get across these points.
  • Expect the usual interview questions.

i. Tell me about yourself?

ii. Name your 5 greatest strengths?

iii. Name your 5 greatest weaknesses?

iv. How would your best friend describe you?

  • Don’t talk money. If the client asks you about money either:

i. Inform of what your ideal rate would be and then leave it there without focusing on this issue, or

ii.  Inform them that your agency handles the salary side of things

  • Never be negative about a former employer. Explain the reasons behind why you are
looking to leave in the most positive terms possible.
